OLGA E. GOMEZ CLARAMONTE Olga E. Gomez Claramonte died Jan. 4, 2005. She was 79. Claramonte was born Oct. 29, 1925 in Cuba and lived in Glendale for 33 years. She was also a member of St. Robert Bellarmine Catholic Church in Burbank. Claramonte was the daughter of the late Victor Gomez and the late Edelmira Tamayo Gomez. She was preceded in death by her husband, Cesar Claramonte; and brother, Reinaldo Gomez. She is survived by her daughters, Tere Mitchell and Mercedes Rivera; sister, Flor M. Gomez; brothers, Jesus Gomez and Elvio A. Gomez; five grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Robert Blechl RANCHO DISTRICT -- A tribute to George Washington will be presented Sunday by the Sons of Liberty Chapter of the Sons of the American Revolution. "The George Washington Commemorative Massing of the Colors" will be held from 3 to 5 p.m. at Forest Lawn Memorial Park. The tribute will include a 21-musket salute, a drum and fife corps, a wreath-laying ceremony and a massing of the colors by more than 50 color guards, Forest Lawn officials said.

High school diplomas were handed out this weekend to nearly 90 Bellarmine-Jefferson High School and 144 Providence High School seniors. Bellarmine-Jefferson High seniors took their first steps on the road to adulthood on Saturday during a graduation ceremony at the Hall of Liberty at Forest Lawn Memorial Park in Hollywood Hills. The event featured a performance by the Senior Chorus, replete with a full band of graduating musicians who played Bob Marley?s ?Three Little Birds.

Ryan Carter LOS ANGELES -- Edwin Gonzalez stood inside a hospital room early Saturday morning, cradling his 23-month-old son, Alec, as the boy died. Family members took foot and hand prints and clips of Alec's hair to remember him. A minister performed last rites. The respirator that had been helping keep Alec alive since a Jan. 1 car accident was shut off Saturday morning after doctors determined the boy was brain dead. The crash in a Sun Valley intersection killed Alec's mother, Melissa Perez.

Robert Chacon For many, the passage of time has not eroded the message of racial harmony and nonviolence preached by Martin Luther King Jr. "Everyone should stand for what he stood for," Julie Ravin, 52, of Burbank said while attending a ceremony Sunday at Forest Lawn Memorial Park in Hollywood Hills that honored the civil rights leader. "I still believe in what he was fighting for." More than 300 people from many walks of life filled Liberty Hall atop Forest Lawn Memorial Park to commemorate the national holiday marking what would have been King's 76th birthday.

BURBANK – Hoards of fans surrounded the perimeter of the Forest Lawn Memorial Park and Mortuary in the Hollywood Hills this morning, waiting for a caravan of SUVs and limousines carrying the family of Michael Jackson. The California Highway Patrol temporarily closed parts of the 405, 101, and 134 freeways for the procession. The eastbound Riverside Drive was also closed, as was both directions of the Forest Lawn Drive ramp. Crowds outside Forest Lawn, which began gathering late last week, meandered around the sprawling facility in search of access.

Robert Blechl SOUTH SAN FERNANDO DISTRICT -- After Burbank siblings Carlos, Lucy and Abby Villalobos lost their mother in a car accident this month, their neighbors and the surrounding community helped them in their time of need. Guadalupe Avila, 45, was killed May 2 in a head-on collision in Van Nuys. Avila, who was born in Chihuahua, Mexico, lived in Burbank for six years. She was a saleswoman with Kitchen-Fair for five years. Several friends and neighbors assisted Avila's three children, all of whom are in their 20s, in meeting funeral costs.
