A one-word response from their star player left the Flintridge Sacred Heart Academy soccer coaches reassured. With grand expectations already in place for another banner season, Flintridge Sacred Heart Co-coaches Frank Pace and Kathy Desmond huddled with Lauren Bustos to discuss her being prepared to start at different positions based on who the Tologs faced. It was Bustos' response that surprised Pace and Desmond, who have carefully nurtured the rising CIF Southern Section Division I program for the past eight seasons.

Before she played the first of her 66 varsity matches or scored one of her 43 career goals, Hannah Hand was issued a rather daunting challenge by Frank Pace. The Flintridge Sacred Heart Academy junior was taken aside by one of her coaches during a practice early in her freshman campaign, and told she would be in the starting lineup, playing alongside three-year varsity standout Jessica Hanson. "You see that girl over there," Pace told Hand. "That's Jessica Hanson.

Faced with the stiffest competition and the best player on the best teams, Flintridge Sacred Heart Academy's Lauren Bustos never wavered. On a stellar defense that was often times impenetrable, she was the leader, faced with the task of shutting down the opposition's most dangerous offensive weapon. A constant force on the overlooked side of the ball, Bustos was a highlight on defense and shined bright enough to incur a cavalcade of honors upon season's end, including the latest, the 2005 girls' soccer All-Area Player of the Year, as voted on by the sportswriters and editors of the Glendale News-Press, Foothill Leader and Burbank Leader.

Nothing changed about the Flintridge Sacred Heart Academy girls’ soccer team’s typically arduous schedule in the 2007-08 season. If anything, it was one of the toughest the Tologs took on in recent years, as 22 of their 24 contests were played against CIF Southern Section Division I or CIF playoff-bound teams and five of their opponents went on to capture their respective league titles. And there are never any matches off in Sacred Heart’s own stacked Mission League.

Amid all the Mission League magnificence, playoff pitfalls and postseason pinnacles that have summed up the last four seasons of Flintridge Sacred Heart Academy soccer history, Breeana Koemans was there. Through all the tribulation and triumph, injury and absence, brilliance and bitterness that made up the 2012 Tologs season, No. 10 was there. She was a complete package on the field, possessing ability in both feet to score from near and far, a pinpoint passer, a vocal leader, a physical presence and a statistical splendor.
