REEL CRITIC Justin Rubin of Glendale, 17, is a junior at Glendale High School. The long list of movies adapted from Stephen King novels have ranged from great ("The Shining") to bad ("Thinner") and everything in between. With the release of "Dreamcatcher," yet another King book gets to be placed in the mediocre category. This silly, meandering and confusing alien tale starts off fresh and scary, but by the 45-minute mark begins its steady pace downward into the simply ridiculous.

Joyce Rudolph At 76, Arne K. Wickstrom will be changing a few lifestyle habits, now that he's engaged to Doris J. Frost, 71. The lifetime bachelor said he has to stop looking at other women and learn to pick up his clothes. "Doris said, 'You can look, but don't touch other girls, or you're out,' " said the retired Volvo mechanic, who lives in La Crescenta. His fiancee also keeps an immaculate house. "So I'll have to pick up my clothes and fold them.

Joyce Rudolph Kathleen Delaney's first book "Dying For a Change" [America House] is a murder mystery set in a small town facing the challenges posed by progress. The heroine, Ellen McKenzie, heads home to Santa Louisa after her divorce and hopes to start a new career in real estate. She finds the owners of a large chain discount store have chosen her city as its next location and residents are divided about the prospect. McKenzie is drawn into the drama when she discovers a man's body in a closet of the first house she is showing.

Army Pfc. Nathan J. Holiday, son of Jack D. Holiday of Burbank, has graduated from basic infantry training at Fort Benning in Columbus, Ga. He is a 2002 graduate of South Pasadena High School. Air Force Airman Alex Villalta, son of Hilda Villalta of Glendale, has graduated from basic military training at Lackland Air Force Base in San Antonio. He is a 2002 grad- uate from Glendale High School. Navy Lt. Jay D. Wylie, son of Forrest Wylie of Glendale, is halfway through a six-month deployment to the Western Pacific Ocean and Arabian Gulf while assigned to the U.S. guided-missile destroyer Benfold, home-ported in San Diego.

She received her bachelor's degree in economics at UC Berkeley and her master's at Virginia Commonwealth University School of Mass Communications. She is an art director at Lowe Lintas in Singapore.
