A five-week-old infant from Burbank is in critical but stable condition after suffering multiple broken bones, and her 19-year-old father is in police custody on suspicion of child abuse. The father, identified by police as Matthew Wojcik, was arrested Tuesday night after Children's Hospital Los Angeles staff alerted investigators of the infant's broken bones, and that the injuries may have been a result of child abuse. After interviewing the infant's parents at the hospital, Burbank police arrested Wojcik on suspicion of felony child abuse.

Burbank police this week issued a public alert after multiple residences were burglarized over a six-day period ending Wednesday. The burglars forced open windows or doors to steal “primarily concealable items such as jewelry and cash,” according to police. The department reminded residents to be aware of their surroundings and to take note of any unknown occupied vehicles on neighborhood streets. The 55-year-old man who was found dead Tuesday evening near the Scott Road offramp for the southbound Golden State (5) Freeway in Burbank has been identified as Clifford Morris of Richland, Wash. The cause of death for Morris, who was pronounced dead at the scene by paramedics, remained under investigation, a Los Angeles County coroner official said Wednesday. The body of a man was found near the Scott Road off-ramp and the Golden State (5) Freeway in Burbank Tuesday night, according to police. Few details were released by Burbank police, who described the man only as being white. Burbank firefighter paramedics pronounced the man dead at the scene shortly after arriving at about 5:55 p.m., according to police. The death of the man, whose identity was not immediately known, was being treated as "suspicious" by the Los Angeles County coroner's office, police said in a statement.

A 54-year-old man was arrested Wednesday after allegedly exposing himself to -- and then trying to kidnap -- a 16-year-old girl as she walked to school in Burbank. The man, Hino Youkhana, was sitting his white Toyota Camry at 7:15 a.m. when, as the girl walked by, he allegedly exposed his genitals and ordered her into the car at Keystone Street and Magnolia Boulevard. The girl walked away without a word, but the Youkhana allegedly gave chase, prompting her to run to John Burroughs High School, where she reported the incident and conveyed the car's license plate information.

Police officials have issued an alert regarding a series of nail salon robberies in Burbank and surrounding cities. At least two have occurred in Burbank, one on July 27 , the other on July 24 . In each of the robberies, two men and one woman stormed the salons, brandished a gun, and demanded cellphones, purses and other items before fleeing in a waiting getaway car. No one in either robbery was hurt, police said. The three suspects are described as being black, with one of the men being about 6 feet tall and 180 pounds, and the second man being about 5 feet 8 inches tall and 160 pounds.

Police are searching for a man who shot pepper spray into a 73-year-old woman's face Thursday at the downtown Burbank Metrolink station. The woman was transported to Providence Saint Joseph Medical Center for treatment. After the assault, which occurred at about 6:40 a.m. at the West Olive Avenue station, a search for the man turned up empty. Now Burbank police are asking the public's help in tracking him down. The man was described by police as being white and between 50 and 60 years old with a large build and blue eyes.

Thousands of Burbank residents on Tuesday turned out for National Night Out events across the city - part of a nationwide effort to encourage neighborhoods to band together in the fight against crime. At the main event on the Chandler Bikeway, police and parks officials brought everything from games to the mounted patrol to entertain residents as 18 other National Night Out parties took place throughout Burbank. Police use the citywide events to encourage residents to sign up for neighborhood watch programs and, as Sgt. The Mariposa Equestrian Bridge - which was closed on Monday for repairs -- has been reopened more than a week ahead of schedule, Burbank officials announced. City crews had been working to replace worn wooden planks on the 73-year-old bridge, which reopened on Wednesday morning. The bridge -- located near South Mariposa Street and Valleyheart Drive -- hadn't been expected to reopen until Aug. 10.
