City Clerk Margarita Campos said her office receives hundreds of phone calls a month from people inquiring about anything from City Council meetings to the latest on Burbank recreational events. "It's such a public office that most of what we do here is help people and direct them where to go [in the city]," Campos said. "My office is a liaison between the city and its people."

Jackson Bell As City Council members got started on adjusting the city's annual budget Tuesday night to cover a $675,000 deficit, it looked as if most of the planned cuts won't be noticed by residents. But that could change if state lawmakers approve Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger's budget, a move that would balloon the budget deficit to $4.3 million and require deeper cuts to city services. Tuesday's budget hearing focused on eight departments. City leaders will discuss the budgets for other departments, including police and fire, later this month.
