A Sun Valley man was shot and killed Sunday after a dispute with a neighbor turned deadly, police said. Travis Solorio, 26, was shot when he got into a argument with a neighbor at 11:10 p.m., a dispute that attracted the attention of others on Tamarack Avenue, police said. Someone in the group that had gathered pulled out a gun and shot Solorio multiple times, according to a news release from the Los Angeles Police Department. He was pronounced dead about 30 minutes later at a local hospital.

Residents on the 2200 block of Olive Avenue were evacuated from their homes for a short time Friday night as Burbank police officers assisted the Los Angeles Police Department's SWAT team. Burbank Police said they were called at about 8:40 p.m. to assist detectives from the LAPD who were searching for a suspect wanted in connection with an assault with a firearm that had occurred in North Hollywood earlier in the evening. The suspect was thought to be living on a residence on Olive, police said.

Brush fire fills valley with smoke and ash More than 150 fire fighters responded to a brush fire in the Hollywood Hills on Friday, including first responders from the Burbank Fire Department. Thick plumes of smoke billowing above the Hollywood sign were visible from both the San Fernando Valley and the city of Los Angeles. The fire broke out near the Oakwood Toluca Hills residential complex east of Barham Boulevard near Universal City, Los Angeles City Fire Department spokesman Ron Myer said.

Car show raises funds for police program Cars both old and new lined up on Riverside Drive on Sunday for the inaugural Toluca Lake Charity Car Show, a fundraising event for the Los Angeles Police Department?s North Hollywood PALS program. Officers barbecued hot dogs and hamburgers and sold water to raise funds for the crime prevention program for youth. More than 125 unique cars were exhibited across three city blocks and several side streets, organizers said. Rodz and Barris Kustom Industries, two local specialty car shops, helped organize the event.

Ryan Carter AIRPORT DISTRICT -- A hydraulic malfunction forced a Los Angeles Police Department helicopter to land at the Burbank-Glendale-Pasadena Airport on Monday morning, diverting it from its normal path to Van Nuys Airport, police said. Neither of the two male officers, the pilot and an observer, were hurt in the soft landing, which occurred on Runway No. 3, said LAPD Sgt. John Pasquariello, a spokesman. "A warning light and a horn alerted them of some pending hydraulic problem," Pasquariello said.

Ryan Carter BURBANK -- A 53-year-old woman missing since Sunday has been found. Helai Zurmati, last seen sitting on a wall outside her apartment in the 500 block of East Valencia Boulevard on Sunday, returned home Wednesday, police said. Zurmati had apparently left her home, walked along Glenoaks Boulevard to the intersection of Glenoaks and Hollywood Way, where she was eventually found and picked up by officers from the Los Angeles Police Department Sunday night, police said.

A Burbank man was shot and killed this week during an altercation at auto body shop, police said. Los Angeles Police officers, responding to a call of shots fired at the corner of Hollywood Boulevard and Mariposa Street about 3:30 p.m. Wednesday, found Gor Avetisyan, 23, and an unidentified man on the ground with gunshot wounds, according to a press release by the Los Angeles Police Department. Both victims were taken to a local hospital, where Avetisyan died from his wounds.

The flag outside Burbank Police Headquarters flew at half-staff this week, and officers wore black armbands out of respect for an Inglewood motorcycle officer who died in the line of duty Tuesday and a Los Angeles Police Department detective killed late Wednesday. Inglewood Officer John Frederick Lee Small died from injuries he sustained when two cars collided and careened into Small's motorcycle along the Pomona (60) Freeway in Diamond Bar. LAPD Det. Abiel Barron was killed Wednesday during a car crash in the Cajon Pass that left another detective critically injured.

ROYAL GORDON MACGREGOR Royal Gordon MacGregor, 85, died June 20, 2003, in Burbank. He was born July 18, 1917, in Bisbee, Ariz., and lived in Burbank for 56 years. Mr. MacGregor worked as a detective sergeant for the Los Angeles Police Department. He was a Mason, and was also a member of Burbank/ Glendale High 12 Club, Al Malaikah Shrine Temple, Worthy Patron of the Eastern Star, American Legion, Police Protective League, Police Relief, Glendale Carving Club and the Glendale Wood Turner's Club.

A 21-year-old man was being held by police in connection with a hit-and-run that killed a 72-year-old pedestrian early Sunday morning in North Hollywood, authorities said. A witness called 911 about 5 a.m. when a black GMC pickup struck the man in the 8100 block of Lankershim Boulevard and drove off, said the Los Angeles Police Department. Emergency workers took the man to an area hospital, where he was pronounced dead. Two hours later, a 21-year-old man was taken to a local hospital after a crash on the 5 Freeway, police said.
