When I was asked to review Gary Bric?s Ramp, which is owned by Burbank?s mayor, I was very excited. I had been looking for a bit of an upscale restaurant to take my wife for her birthday, but I didn?t want to have to drive to Beverly Hills to do it. Located on Hollywood Way in Burbank, the restaurant is literally adjacent to the 5 Freeway onramp. It was the perfect solution. Reservations are recommended if you wish to sit in the bar/lounge, but not necessary for the dining room unless it?

Quality craftsmanship is a cherished tradition of the D'Argenzio family, longtime Burbank residents known for their beautiful handcrafted cabinetry. That same kind of care and craftsmanship can be found in the family's award-winning wines. The winery is in Santa Rosa. But the D'Argenzio's wanted to bring the experience of wine tasting home, so it just seemed natural to them to convert the front office of their woodworking shop to a tasting room and wine shop. And I'm glad they did. It broadens our already diverse epicurean opportunities.

You've probably heard that red wine goes with meat and white wine goes with poultry -- and that summertime calls for chilled, white wines while wintertime necessitates the warmth of reds. While these "rules" can be helpful, consider pairing wine and food based on weight, texture, and flavors. Gina Gallo, third-generation winemaker for Gallo of Sonoma, encourages wine drinkers to enjoy different varietals throughout the year and to try unexpected pairings.

I have always purchased wine based on what the label looks like, so I was nervous and excited at the idea of going to a wine tasting at Rosso Wine Shop in Glendale. For $10, from 5 to 8 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays, the owner, Jeff Zimmitti, opens three bottles of wine for tasting. Each weekend features a different "flight:" Burgundy wines, barbecue wines from California, Italian, Spanish and French wines. It was just delightful. Zimmitti has led a very interesting life, having gotten most of his experience in wines while traveling Europe as the drummer in a few bands.

Movie is more about the first disciple of tolerance Josh Kleinbaum is the city hall reporter for the News-Press, the Leader's sister publication. Midway through Mel Gibson's "The Passion of the Christ," a thought occurred to me: If Michelangelo were alive today, he would not have painted "The Last Supper," the famous piece about Jesus Christ's last meal, he would have made a movie about it. Over the last few weeks, Gibson has received plenty of criticism, especially from the Jewish community.

Family and friends toasted guitar legend Randy Rhoads on Sunday during a release party for a Cabernet Sauvignon that bears his name. Rhoads was the lead guitarist for Ozzy Osbourne and Quiet Riot before he was killed in a plane crash while on tour with Osbourne in 1982. The D'Argenzio Winery created the 2005 vintage at the full production facility in Santa Rosa, and the wine is being exclusively sold there and at the family's tasting room in Burbank. Kathy Rhoads D'Argenzio, who is married to Richard D'Argenzio, has been trying to come up with a way to honor her brother.

I can be a creature of habit. I set my slippers in the same place every night to easily put them on first thing in the morning. I buy my steaks only at the Handy Market. I drink mai tais only when I’m at Damon’s. And each Sunday morning at church I sit in the same pew in the same spot (so long as no one has gotten there before me, which I take every effort to prevent). I’ve gotten used to this seat. It’s a place where I’m comfortable and not distracted by any new things or people around me. In fact, I find that most people sit in the same place in church.
