The holidays can be a time of new gifts and delicious feasts for many children. Unfortunately, however, many little ones in our local communities are not as fortunate. Bethel 97 and Bethel 208 of the International Order of Job’s Daughters in Burbank are now working with the Midnight Mission in Los Angeles to help bring a little bit of joy and comfort to those youngsters who would otherwise go without. In December, Bethels 97 and 208 donated to the mission nearly 80 Project Night Night tote bags, each filled with security blankets, books and toys.

The Castaway Restaurant served as the venue for a gathering of the members of the Burbank Shrine Club as they observed their annual installation of officers this past Sunday evening. The event, which also included an official visit from Shrine Potentate, the Illustrious Sir Dave Chernik of the Al Malaikah Shrine Temple of Los Angeles, saw local Masons and Shriners joined by their family members to both honor the incoming officers and directors and show their appreciation to the outgoing 2012 leadership.

I love Burbank! I love this city because it is one of the most kind and generous cities in the world. This is not a commentary about the second coming of Gandhi or the resurrection of Saint Frances. It is just a humble story about one person helping another. A saga of brotherhood, generosity and a simple humanity that often seems nonexistent in this sometimes cold, cruel showbiz town. I recently heard about the truly amazing and superb things the Burbank Noon Kiwanis Club is doing to help needy families in our community.
