Joyce Rudolph The competition was stiff during the first Tennis Ball dinner dance. But no one was near a court. Instead, a superb array of silent auction gifts kept guests running back and forth to the bidding sheets during the fundraiser for the Family Service Agency, now known as Families First in Burbank. City Manager Mary Alvord was mistress of ceremonies and welcomed the more than 200 guests to the Oct. 8 event at The Castaway. A steak-and-salmon dinner was served and dance music was provided by the band Orange Colored Sky. Mayor Marsha Ramos presented Kermit Floyd, president of the board of directors, with a Mayor's Commendation for his financial guidance of the agency.

HIGH SCHOOL GIRLS RECEIVE SCHOLARSHIPS Three Burbank high school girls were honored at the Burbank University Women’s Scholarship Tea at the home of Marsha Baroda . The three honorees were selected for this year’s college scholarships. The students are Georgina Thomas from John Burroughs High School, Camille Surujbhan from Bellarmine-Jefferson High School and Gina Park from Burbank High School. Georgina is a member of the Key Club, Diversity Club.

MERRICK -- GOLDBERG Robert T. and Kathleen M. Merrick of Sunland have announced the engagement of their daughter, Diana Miriam, to Zachary L. Goldberg. Diana graduated from Providence High School, and was a Ticktocker of the National Charity League, Burbank Chapter. She graduated from the USC, where she was a member of the Kappa Kappa Gamma. The bridegroom-to-be is the son of Steven and Joyce Goldberg of North Bend, Wash. He attended the University of Puget Sound where he served as student body president and was a member of Sigma Chi. He graduated cum laude with degrees in business and psychology.

National Charity League Ticktockers presented The National Charity League Burbank Chapter had its Senior Presentation for the Class of 2004 at the Sheraton Universal. The master of ceremonies was Bruce Osgood, principal of Burbank High School. The Ticktockers presented were Kristina Marie Barragan, daughter of Ruben and Karen Barragan; Stefanie Judit Cowan, daughter of Eugene and Maritza Cowan; Briana Nicole Cwik, daughter of Ronald and Carol Cwik; Jacqueline Michele Goglia, daughter of Donald and Jeanette Goglia; Ashley Christine Kurges, daughter of Robert Kurges and Sharon Kurges; Kelly Kimie Reinig, daughter of Patrick and Gail (Hamanaka)

Ticktockers model fashions, receive awards National Charity League of Burbank had its annual fashion show and awards event titled "Il Manichino Bello" at The Castaway. Chapter President Dana Brooks welcomed the guests. The 11th- and 12th-grade Ticktocker members modeled fashions spanning from the Medieval times to 2004. Charity League is a six-year, mother and daughter organization that provides volunteer service to local charities. Each member must perform a number of hours each year.

Charity League has membership tea The members of the Burbank Chapter of National Charity League are busy planning their annual Membership Tea to welcome the chapter's newest mother and daughter members. Under the leadership of Chairwoman Nancy Baylon, the members will transform a hall at St. Francis Xavier Church into a tropical paradise and extend an "aloha" to these new members. The membership drive, headed by Membership Vice President Jamie Reeves, is underway.

ALTRUSA INTERNATIONAL INSTALLS NEW OFFICERS Altrusa International of Glendale installed new officers for fiscal year 2008-09. Altrusa has been serving Glendale schools, libraries and the community for 54 years. The club recently provided computer math programs at an elementary school, specialized books for College View School and started a Glendale Community College scholarship for disabled students. The new officers are Roberta Hagopian , president, of Glendale; Barbara Winsor , vice president, of Burbank; Joan Nellis , treasurer, of La Crescenta; Betty Fogt , secretary, of Burbank; Donnalee Monninger , director, of Glendale; Janet Santiestevan , director, of La CaƱada Flintridge; Sandra Moore , director, of Monrovia; and Helen Jones , past president, of Glendale.
