Jeff Tully Editor's note: This is the first of an ongoing column focusing on local golf. A couple of items, if you will, before we begin. I'm glad that between my work and my location, I'm in a place that allows me to report on golf for my hometown newspaper. As a Glendale native, Burbank resident and assistant editor for the Southern California Golf Assn.'s "Fore Magazine," I hope to help develop solid coverage of the game in our area. This column will be a regular feature for the Glendale News-Press and Burbank Leader, and we're takin' names, so to speak.

SUNLAND -- For local enthusiasts, De Bell Municipal Golf Course is the only public facility in the city. However, when golfers want to venture outside the city to play a round or two, they now have another option along with Lakeside Country Club in Toluca Lake, Oakmont Country Club and Scholl Canyon Golf Course in Glendale and Brookside Golf Course in Pasadena. The Angeles National Golf Club, the first Nicklaus Design Co.'s course in Los Angeles County, held its grand opening May 27. The facility gives local golfers the opportunity to play on a course that is not only challenging, but features scenic views and beautiful landscaping.
