The following were taken from daily booking reports at the Burbank Police Department. AREA 1 2200 block of Empire Avenue As part of patrols targeting narcotics, gangs and prostitution, officers on May 19 arrested Stephen Espadron, 26, of Richmond, Timothy Harris, 28, of San Diego, Raynette Owens, 20, of Antioch, and Stephanie Barnett, 18, of Santa Fe Springs. Officers at the Extended Stay Hotel contacted three men sitting in a parked car and smelled marijuana coming from inside the vehicle.

AREA 1: 1700 block of West Olive Avenue Khadijah Baseer, 31, was arrested Jan. 11 on suspicion of prostitution. AREA 2 200 block of North Third Street Chang Heo, 33, was arrested Jan. 11 on suspicion of possessing marijuana for sale and cultivating marijuana. 200 block of North Third Street Kevin J.S. Lee, 29, was arrested Jan. 11 on suspicion of possessing marijuana for sale and cultivating marijuana. 200 block of North Third Street Kevin Nie, 34, was arrested Jan. 11 on suspicion of possessing marijuana for sale and cultivating marijuana.

AREA 1 2200 block of North Buena Vista Street Police on June 24 arrested a 25-year-old stockton woman on suspicion of soliciting with the intent to commit prostitution at the Quality Inn Motel. Tasha Said was arrested after matching a police description. 2200 block of North Buena Vista Street A tip led police to motel room on Saturday where they arrested Laquesha Gipson, 23, of Burbank, for soliciting with the intent to commit prostitution.

Three people have been arrested in a sweep of local hotels and motels for narcotics, gangs and prostitution activity since Oct. 7, Burbank Police Officer Joshua Kendrick said. At the Ramada Inn at 2900 N. San Fernando Blvd., officers arrested Jair Cornejo, 22, of Los Angeles, on suspicion of possession of dangerous drugs. On Oct. 13, officers were advised by hotel security that a female was renting a room and that numerous male guests were entering and leaving the room. Officers contacted the occupants and during a consent search of the room, officers located narcotics and paraphernalia.

DOWNTOWN — Authorities are planning a targeted crackdown on a surge of prostitution-related crimes at local hotels. With prostitution linked to assaults, robbery and narcotics sales, the Police Department plans to focus on not only those engaged in prostitution, but also those who assist, encourage or profit from it, Lt. Armen Dermenjian said. Beefed-up enforcement efforts come as patrol officers in the last month investigated a string of classified advertisements and online solicitations leading to the arrest and citation of a handful of suspected prostitutes and their pimps, mostly from out of town.

BURBANK — Police detectives arrested two Northern California women on Thursday, who they suspect are part of an Internet prostitution ring that used a Burbank hotel in their operation. Fremont resident Jessica Gonzales and Fairfield resident Raeanna Valencia, who are both 19, were arrested following an investigation into online advertisements offering escort and massage services throughout the San Fernando Valley, including Burbank, said Burbank Police Sgt. Matthew Ferguson.

Ryan Carter CIVIC CENTER -- A money-for-sex deal that went bad led a 19-year-old Los Angeles man to strangle his Burbank solicitor, set his apartment on fire to cover up the crime and take the man's belongings, prosecutors said. Burbank Superior Court Judge Chesley McKay on Tuesday ordered Juan Carlos Martinez to stand trial for the Sept. 5, 2001 slaying of Charles Rivas, 62, in the bathroom of his cluttered studio apartment in the 1000 block of North Glenoaks Boulevard.
