Martin Sheen named voice of Providence Emmy and Golden Globe award-winning actor Martin Sheen has been named the voice of Providence Health & Services, California, in a new advertising campaign that will kick off next week. The series will debut Monday and run during drive times on KNX (1070-AM,) KFI (640-AM,) KTWV (94.7-FM) and KRTH (101-FM.) Paws event will offer pet CPR instruction The Burbank Animal Shelter will benefit from the Paws-tronomical Pet CPR Event from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Woodbury University Auditorium, 7500 Glenoaks Blvd.

Michael A. Rembis will be the new chief executive of Providence Saint Joseph Medical Center in Burbank, according to an announcement from the hospital Monday. Rembis, 58, will take his new role in mid-September. He leaves his post as president and chief executive of Hollywood Presbyterian Medical Center, where he oversaw a range of specialty programs similar to those at Providence Saint Joseph. Rembis replaces Barry Wolfman, who left the Burbank hospital earlier this year to return to his alma mater, George Washington University, where he is the medical center's top administrator.

Voluntary buy-out notices have been mailed to full-time employees at Providence Saint Joseph Medical Center in Burbank as the organization attempts to cauterize financial wounds inflicted by the protracted recession, a spokeswoman said. The notices were sent to several medical centers under Providence Health & Services Southern California, including Saint Joseph, last week, hospital spokeswoman Patricia Aidem said. She declined to say how many buy-outs were needed to avoid layoffs.

Dick Clark, the host of “American Bandstand” and more recently the person who counted down the seconds until the new year, died today at 82. Providence Saint Joseph Medical Center today remembered Clark who was treated at the hospital in 2004 after suffering a stroke. Patricia Modrzejewski, president of the Providence Health & Services Foundation, Valley Service Area, said in a statement that “Providence Saint Joseph Medical Center lost a wonderful friend today. Dick Clark stood among our heroes for his dedication to building a state-of-the-art neuroscience program at our hospital.” A one-time stroke patient, Clark, along with his wife Kari Clark, chaired the committee raising money to establish our inpatient neuroscience unit, which was named in their honor - the Kari and Dick Clark Neuroscience Unit, she said.

Providence Saint Joseph Medical Center is ramping up its lab services to possibly triple the number of physicians it services next year. The Burbank hospital announced this week that early next year it will launch California Laboratory Associates, combining with Pathology Associates Medical Laboratories of Spokane, Wash., to expand its capacity for testing tissue samples for everything from cancer and tuberculosis to vitamin D deficiency. Rafael Millare, Providence Saint Joseph's Laboratory and Pathology Services administrative director, said the expansion will allow the hospital to serve more local doctors, send results electronically and compete with large commercial labs, while improving services for hospital clients.

Music will be provided by Off the Record Orchestra. This evening is a Tribute to Barbara O?Kane, San Fernando Valley Area retail manager, Providence Health and Services. She is the manager of the gift shops at both Providence St. Joseph and Providence Holy Cross medical centers and has been a service area manager for 26 years.
