TODAY The 2012 Quantum Leap celebration will be from 9 a.m. to 11 p.m. today and 9 a.m. to 8 p.m Sunday at the Burbank Marriot Hotel and Convention Center, 2500 Hollywood Way, Burbank. The event will celebrate the prediction of a positive change in 2012. Singers, bestselling authors and spiritual leaders will perform and speak during the event. Tickets are $195 for the weekend. Proceeds assist the 2012 One Heart Foundation to support children in Tibet and Guatemala.

“For those of you who have never heard us, your luck just ran out,” cornet player and leader of the Night Blooming Jazzmen Chet Jaeger said to roaring laughter as the Jazzmen kicked off the Alex Film Society’s 10th annual “Vaudeville Extravaganza” show at the Alex Theatre in Glendale. A packed house tapped toes and bobbed their heads to the Jazzmen’s applause-worthy renditions of Fats Waller’s “Crazy About My Baby” and “The Rose of Washington Square,” as they took the theater back to its vaudeville roots dressed in red shirts that read “I’m a Nightblooming Jazzmaniac.

NORWALK ? Western Nelson?s season was already long since over at this time last year. The Burroughs High senior never made it to the CIF prelims as a junior, much less to the CIF State Meet. But that?s exactly where Nelson is headed after a breakout fourth-place finish in 9 minutes 4.19 seconds at the CIF Southern Section Masters Meet Friday night at Cerritos College. Fifth place was the cutoff for advancement to state. ?After last year, it?s a quantum leap, I?m pretty happy with it,?
