LAST WEEK: Burbank lost to Saugus, 34-7; Hart lost to Valencia, 29-10. OUTLOOK:Burbank gets the unlucky draw to have to face Hart after the Indians had their worst Foothill League outing in 13 seasons last week. BURBANK VS. SAUGUS WHEN: 7:30 p.m. Thursday. WHERE: College of the Canyons in Valencia. RECORDS: The Bulldogs are 3-4, 0-2 in league; the Centurions are 4-3, 0-2 LAST WEEK: Burbank lost to Valencia, 35-7; Saugus lost to Canyon, 28-26. OUTLOOK: Time is running out for Burbank if it hopes to secure one of three guaranteed CIF Southern Section Division II playoff spots from the Foothill League. In fact, to do so, the Bulldogs would have to run the table the rest of the season, beating not only the Centurions, but powerhouse Hart, Nov. 4, and cross-town rival Burroughs, Nov. 12. However, there is a chance the fourth-place team from league could get an at-large berth into the postseason.

Jim Riggio Burbank High girls' soccer Coach Savio Silveria tried an experiment, and for most of the first half, it worked. Silveria changed his tactical set up in hopes of keeping visiting Saugus further away from the goal during Friday's Foothill League match. Saugus did stay further away from the goal, but the Centurions showed they can score from longer distances and held on for a 3-2 victory against the Bulldogs. "We played them before and I changed a few things," Silveria said.

Erik Boal During his 11-year tenure as Burroughs High girls' basketball coach, Doug Nicol has come to expect strong performances from his teams during the second half of the season. But after enduring four losses during an eight-day stretch in mid-January, even the usually optimistic Nicol might have had his reservations about whether or not this year's Indian squad could duplicate the late-season success of past teams. But if Friday night's 62-31 Foothill League drubbing of visiting Saugus is any indication of the direction in which Burroughs is headed, Nicol's questions might have been answered.
