--Lolita Harper MEDIA CITY CENTER -- Two men were arrested Saturday -- one for assault with a deadly weapon and the other for battery -- after a security guard used his baton while trying to break up a fight between a man and his ex-girlfriend, police said. Damion Jordan, an 18-year-old Burbank resident, was placed under citizen's arrest for suspicion of battery at the Media City Center Mall by Walter Rivera, a 21-year-old center security guard from Glendale.

Ryan Carter BURBANK -- A 34-year-old Burbank security guard suffered irritation to the mouth after two men allegedly hurled a liquid, which may have been transmission fluid, at him at a recycling center. The guard noticed two men in a white van approach the center at 1:25 a.m. Tuesday at 500 S. Flower St. They got out and began unloading a box of used oil, Burbank Police Sgt. Bill Taylor said. The men picked up the oil and put it back in the van after the guard advised them there were no drop-offs, Taylor said.

Ryan Carter BURBANK -- Police nabbed an armed robbery suspect minutes after he wielded a knife at a security guard at the Burbank Virgin Megastore, police said. Richard Thomas Nuttall, 39, of Burbank, was arrested on suspicion of robbery shortly after 3 p.m., Burbank Police Sgt. Bill Taylor said. Officers arrested Nuttall near Burbank Boulevard and Lima Street after hearing a description of the knife-wielding robber, which matched Nuttall, over their scanners, police said.

A 38-year-old woman charged with assault with a deadly weapon in connection with a robbery this weekend is scheduled to be arraigned in Burbank Superior Court Wednesday, authorities said. Ladonni Young, of Los Angeles, was arrested Saturday for allegedly assaulting a security guard with a razor after attempting to make off with “mini mice” from Vallarta Supermarket in Burbank, Police Sgt. Robert Quesada said. While the security guard attempted to detain Young at 10950 Sherman Way, she allegedly pulled out a chemical spray and emptied the canister in the guard’s face, Quesada said.

Ryan Carter MAGNOLIA PARK -- Three men were being held on $1 million bail each after they allegedly planned to shoot a security guard at a local recording studio. Damon Byers, 25, from Van Nuys, and two Huntington Beach men, Brandon Kennedy, 26, and Laurence Smith, 25, were arrested early Monday after police found guns connected to them, Burbank Police Sgt. Bill Taylor said. A security guard asked Byers to leave a rap artist's 3 a.m. recording session at Encore Studios Inc. at 721 Glenwood Place, and Byers allegedly threatened him. Byers allegedly returned shortly after 5 a.m. and approached a gate.

Jenna Bordelon CIVIC CENTER -- Three men were arrested on suspicion of assaulting a security guard with a deadly weapon in an alley behind Fantasia Billiard, 133 N. San Fernando Blvd. The weapon in question was a steel gate, police said. Bail for Jeremy Brewer, 28, of Glendale, Kevin Petrunyak, 32, of Burbank and Scott Rudolph, 28 or 29, of Keesburg, Va. was set at $30,000 each. After spending Wednesday evening at the billiard club, the three men were asked by security guard John Denny to finish their drinks and leave, police said.

Ryan Carter NORTHWEST DISTRICT -- Burbank Police think they may have arrested a man suspected in a rash of pie burglaries from local market. Richard Michael Mason, 39, a transient from Burbank, was arrested Jan. 24 for allegedly stealing two cherry pies from from the Ralphs at 2500 W. Victory Blvd., Burbank Police Sgt. Bill Taylor said. Mason apparently took two pies out of the store, sat down on a bench outside and started to eat them. Mason refused to respond to a security guard who was trying to figure out if he had stolen the pies, Taylor said.

The following incidents were taken from police reports. HILLSIDE DISTRICT 500 block of North Sunset Canyon: Police are investigating a report of damage done to a mailbox May 27. Witnesses told police they heard a loud, sharp noise shortly after midnight. The mailbox was found off its base and lying mangled in the street, said police, who suspect a small explosive device was used. HILLSIDE DISTRICT 600 block of Olive Avenue: Police are investigating a report of an attempted robbery Thursday.

Burbank police briefly closed Olive Avenue Monday morning to investigate a suspicious package that was delivered near offices housing Clear Channel Communications, officials said. They lifted the evacuations about 8:40 a.m. for the building on the 3400 block of West Olive Avenue after determining the package wasn’t dangerous. A security guard became suspicious of the Styrofoam package about 6:30 a.m. after a man walked up to the building’s pathway, dropped it off and walked away, Burbank Police Sgt. Robert Quesada said.

‘Strapped’ man arrested outside hotel A 23-year-old man was booked on suspicion of possession of a concealed weapon following his arrest this week outside a hotel near the airport. Edward Anthony Gamino, of Los Angeles, was arrested Tuesday outside the Ramada Burbank in the 2900 block of North San Fernando Boulevard after officers suspected he had been drinking, Burbank Police Sgt. Robert Quesada said. Gamino allegedly told officers “I’m strapped” before officers recovered an unlicensed .357 revolver, authorities said.

I have recently been surveyed on whether security guards should have guns on campus at Pasadena City College. I believe we should have guns as weapons for the security guards because of things like what happened at Virginia Tech. Maybe if there were more security guards with weapons, they could have stopped the shooting, and not so many students would have been killed or injured. The only security guards who should have guns on campus, however, are the ones who have experience using some sort of weapons or guns.

I was already working summers as a janitor at the store, a three-story throwback to an earlier time. My security-guard hours would be from 6 to 9 every night through December.

Ryan Carter BURBANK -- A Burbank Police officer and his brother, who were arrested in July in connection with a melee at a pop-punk concert at Universal Amphitheater, say they were wrongly accused. In a recently filed lawsuit, Officer Anthony Valento and his brother Joseph claim they were the ones who were assaulted at a July 15 Offspring concert. They also allege they were falsely imprisoned and arrested by event security personnel and sheriff's deputies.
