Donna Elaine Miller considers herself lucky to be able to make a living as a songwriter. About three years ago, she co-wrote a song for a Sesame Street episode that was chosen as the theme song for this year's Sesame Street float entry in the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade in New York. "Somebody told me once that I'm a cross between Joni Mitchell and George Gershwin," Miller said. Miller's song, "Another Sunny Day," will be playing from the float, which includes all the Sesame Street characters such as Big Bird and Elmo, she said.

Tomo Sushi's Tom wants to give you the best sushi in town. He goes out of his way to find the freshest fish and says that "you can taste the difference!" Healthy BitesAmong the world's cuisines, a Mediterranean diet is often cited as one of the healthiest. With an emphasis on fresh ingredients, savory herbs and spices, citrus juices and olive oil, it's also one of the most delicious. At Healthy Bites, you can sample these wonderful flavors and know you're treating your body right too. The restaurant occupies a narrow storefront where everything is made to go, a fact made plain by the obvious lack of seating. Healthy Bites opens early and offers a variety of espresso drinks, coffee, tea, pastries, bagels and croissants.

There are several well-known, family-friendly cafés in Burbank, but in the northern reaches of the city lies a contender worthy of consideration. The Hill Street Café on North Glenoaks Boulevard is an outpost of good food and reliable service, and it boasts a menu full of pleasant surprises. Hill Street starts serving early every day with a world tour of breakfast specialties ranging from traditional American breakfasts of two eggs, potatoes and a wide choice of meat sides to Mexican dishes, like breakfast enchiladas to an Italian frittata, an open-face omelet.

Going to Panera Bread in Glendale is like putting on your favorite jacket on a chilly autumn day. It?s warm, it goes with everything, and you feel good wearing it. You can trust that a meal at Panera will be comforting and good for you, the ambience will be warm and welcoming, and the experience will be relatively painless (sometimes, in life, the zipper does get stuck). Panera is a little like a modern cafeteria in that you order your food in one area and have it delivered in another.

Nothing puts a smile on a face better than a grand parade. And the smiles were a mile long, down Olive Avenue from Lincoln to Lomita streets during Burbank on Parade last Saturday. Despite the devastating heat, everybody seemed to be having a great time, whether they were spectators or participants. High school band members had an extra spring in their step as they marched, knowing their moms and dads, uncles and aunts and sisters and brothers were watching. They had polished their musical instruments so brightly that they glimmered under the hot sun. Ponies all decked out in their equestrian finery strutted their stuff as children called to their parents, “Mommy, Daddy, aren’t they cute?

Crescenta Valley High School graduate Seong Park's involvement in acting and theater was an accident. Park, 19, actually chose a guitar class for an elective, but was mistakenly enrolled in drama when he was a freshman. He continued in the class, but was presented an ultimatum -- audition for the spring musical or get an F. Park auditioned, and now hopes to continue his acting career at the Guildford School of Acting Conservatory in the United Kingdom -- if he gets the money.
