Bernardi staying on with UCLA football team When Karl Dorrell took over the coaching reigns of the UCLA football program last month, many expected him to clean house and get rid of all of the assistants from the previous administration. However, although Dorrell has brought in a new group of assistants, one longtime Bruin mainstay has remained with the program. Gary Bernardi -- a former Burroughs High head coach -- is staying on with UCLA, overseeing the university's nationwide recruiting efforts.

•Captured the Rio Hondo League individual title. •Was voted the Rio Hondo League's Most Valuable Golfer. •He had an 18-hole scoring average was 69 during his senior season. •Won the Glendora High School Invitational title. •Finished 17th out of 123 players in the CIF Southern California Golf Assn. High School Championship, missing the cut for the CIF State Championship by just two shots. •Is a three-time All-Area recipient and two-time player-of-the-year honoree, also winning as a freshman in 2007.

GIBSON -- BRIGHT April Noel Gibson and Arthur Scott Bright exchanged wedding vows at Descanso Gardens, with the Rev. Richard Scharn officiating. A reception followed in the Rose Garden and Pavilionat Descanso, where the bridal party and guests danced to a swing band. The bride is the daughter of Roma and Thomas Gibson of La Crescenta. She attends Cal State Northridge, will graduate in May with a liberal studies degree and credential and plans to become an elementary school teacher.

JIGGINS-GHEZZI Amanda Kelley Jiggins and James Michael Ghezzi Jr., of West Hollywood, have announced their engagement. The bride-to-be is the daughter of Carole and Ronald Jiggins, of Pasadena. She is the granddaughter of Joseph Kelley, of Columbus, Kan., and the late Mildred Kelley and Helen and Bernard Jiggins, of Laguna Woods. She is a graduate of San Marino High School, received her bachelor's degree from Loyola Marymount University and master's degree from the University of San Francisco.

Joyce Rudolph Dinner show continues at Genio's Restaurant BURBANK -- The next monthly Hot Mamas Dinner Show, starring Nancy Daley, will be May 6 at Genio's Restaurant, 1420 W. Olive Ave., in Burbank. Her songs, which are a witty look at life from the female perspective, are co-written with husband Bob Daley. Many of the songs she performs with fellow singers Colleen McNamara and Sisu Raiken. The evening begins with a reception at 6:30 p.m., followed by dinner at 7 and show starting at 8:15.

Rodney Gray, founder of Prolific Entertainment, a media production company in Burbank, is nominated for the Roy W. Dean L.A. Film and Video Grants. The winner will be selected today. The grants go to filmmakers whose film meets the grants' mission of forwarding projects that help humanity. A native of Baltimore, Gray began his study of film at Howard University where he graduated in 2001. Since his journey in cinema began, he has completed two films, "The Fear of Success" and "A Cry For Help," which won Best Cinematography in the Paul Robeson Film Competition.

Ten graduating seniors from the four Burbank high schools were honored recently with $500 scholarship awards at the Burbank Magnolia Park Optimist Club's annual awards breakfast. Members evaluated 56 student applicants on academic achievement, extracurricular participation, and their school and community service before making final selections. From Burbank High School, those receiving the award were Tai Ho Kang, who will attend MIT, majoring in neurology and medicine; Lucy Duong, who will attend UCLA, majoring in biology; and Mitali Dave, who will attend UC Berkeley, majoring in molecular and cell biology.

Molly Shore BURBANK -- Gersen Leon Grosmark, known to many as "Mr. G.," died July 31 in Los Angeles. Grosmark, a Burbank resident since 1952, taught mathematics and business classes at John Burroughs High School for 33 years. He retired in 1986. Born in St. Paul, Minn. on May 14, 1926, Grosmark attended UCLA following his service in the U.S. Army. At UCLA, he earned a bachelor's degree in mathematics, and later received his master's degree from USC. He and his wife, Phyllis Steinman, celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary June 29 at the Oakmont Country Club in Glendale.

Marine Corps Pvt. Cliff C. Lohner, son of Conrad C. Lohner of Burbank, recently completed basic training at Marine Corps Recruit Depot, San Diego. He is a 1999 graduate of Burbank High School. Army Staff Sgt. Carlos F. Lora, son of Clara G. Lora of Burbank, has graduated from the Army Basic Noncommissioned Officer Course. He is a movement supervisor assigned to the Allied Forces South, NATO, Naples and Italy. Cadet Michael S. Blackburn has graduated from the Army Reserve Officer Training Corps Advanced Camp at Fort Lewis, Tacoma, Wash.
