Betty Roque Chavez Betty Roque Chavez, 78, died Feb. 21, 2004. She was a longtime Burbank resident. She is survived by her sons, Frank, David and Samual Chavez; a daughter, Jeanette R. Reed; and one grandchild. Funeral services were Friday. Norman Edward Cottle Norman Edward Cottle, 91, died Feb. 18, 2004. He was a Burbank resident for 85 years. He is survived by his wife, Virginia Cottle; a daughter, Marilyn Saylor; three grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

Marilyn Louise Kemper Eichlin Marilyn Louise Kemper Eichlin died on Aug. 22, 2005, in Burbank. She was 84. Eichlin was born on June 13, 1921 in Missouri. She was a 31-year resident of Burbank and a retired school teacher, having taught in the Burbank Unified School District for 35 years. Eichlin is survived by her cousin Elaine Carlson Thurn of Overland Park, Kan.; cousin Eugene Carlson of Clay Center, Kan.; sister-in-law Mary Eichlin Strawn and husband George Strawn of Riegelsville, Pa. A memorial service was held at Pierce Brothers Little Country Chapel at Valhalla Memorial Park in Burbank.

NORTH HOLLYWOOD ? A troop of Boy Scouts, military veterans and Burbank community members traversed Valhalla Memorial Park, posting small American flags on the headstones of deceased service men and women. The ceremony ushered in the Memorial Day weekend for Burbank, said Burbank Troop 201 Assistant Scoutmaster Harold Schierholt. "Every year we come to Valhalla to celebrate the beginning of Memorial Day, to honor the soldiers who paid the ultimate prices for our country," he said.

MARTHA A. ELY Martha A. Ely, 93, died May 14, 2003, in Berkeley. She was born in Bonne Terre, Mo., and lived in Burbank for 55 years. She was a homemaker who enjoyed gardening, music and the arts. Mrs. Ely is survived by her daughter, Nancy Ely; and four grandchildren. The internment was Monday at Forest Lawn Hollywood Hills. In lieu of flowers, donations can be sent to the Glaucoma Foundation, 116 John St., Suite 1605, New York, NY 10038.

JANE POST HENRY Jane Post Henry, 78, died Nov. 10, 2002, in Glendale. Born June 18, 1924, in New Orleans, she was a 24-year resident of Burbank. She was a member of several organizations including the board of directors of Twelve Oaks Lodge in La Crescenta, the National Charity League of Glendale, the Parent-Teacher Assn. of R.D. White Elementary School in Glendale, the Alpha Delta Pi Alumnae and Burbank University Women. She was also an avid bridge player and traveler.

Memorial Day came early for Boy Scout Troop 201, which in partnership with the American Legion Post 150 of Burbank sponsored an evening of remembrance Friday at Valhalla Memorial Park. Children, many dressed in their scouting uniforms, laid hundreds of American flags to honor those who have kept this country free. The city?s annual Memorial Day ceremony is scheduled for 11 a.m. Monday at the McCambridge Park War Memorial, at the corner of Amherst Drive and San Fernando Road.

Pierce Brothers Valhalla and the Burbank Aviation Museum on Saturday dedicated a model space shuttle to the crews of the lost Challenger and Columbia shuttles at Pierce Brothers Valhalla Memorial Park in North Hollywood. The model space shuttle was moved last year to the park, but the memorial wasn’t formally dedicated until this past weekend. The shuttle model was donated to the park from the museum, which is located in the park. Burbank Mayor Dave Golonski, retired astronaut Vance Brand and aviation pioneer Wally Funk spoke at the dedication.

Memorial wall weekend events The Dignity Memorial Vietnam Wall, a three-quarter-scale traveling replica of the Vietnam Veterans Memorial in Washington, D.C., will have its official opening ceremony for viewing at 7 p.m. Friday at Valhalla Memorial Park, 10621 Victory Blvd., North Hollywood. The event will include a parade and will usher in a weekend of events surrounding the wall, including a pancake breakfast from 7:30 a.m. to noon on Saturday with a concert, firing of civil war cannon and veterans dinner ceremony to follow.

Shuttle movie replica unveiling set for April A scheduled May 10 unveiling at Valhalla Memorial Park of a 21-foot long replica of a Space Shuttle has been moved up to early April. The Burbank Aviation Museum received the replica as a donation after it was used as a movie prop in "The Core," in 2004. Volunteers are repairing and restoring the piece, which is in tribute to the "honored dead of aviation." The site will also have two graphic tablets depicting crews of the Challenger and the Discovery, who died during their missions.
